Hi all,
On this date, Tuesday June 25th, 1957, Jim went tinto the RCA Studios to record the first of his now 'trademark' ballad albums entitled "Jim Reeves" (RCA Victor LPM 1576).
I was fortunate to spot this album, in mint condition, in the early 1980's at a record fair over here in the UK and paid the really good price of £8:50. I am not sure how much the album was actually worth by then but I found it a really good bargain. I partcularly love the tracks "You Belong To Me" and "My Happiness" A great departure from Jim's earlier Abott works.
I checked around and found that this album was nver releaed in the UK, but was released in USA and Germany. Which I thought was understandable because Jim had not hit the UK charts yet. (That was to be three years away).
But I then got to wondering why other future LPs did not get released here in the UK after Jim got really established here. LP's such as "Up Through The Years" (1966), "Blue Side Of Lonesome" (1967) and "The Best Of..Vol.II" (1965)
Did RCA see these as not potentially good sellers or was there something else? The album "Blue Side Of Lonesome" produced two singles for Jim over here as well. The "Jim Reeves" 1957 album to this day remains unreleased here, even in CD form.
Can you enlighten us on this please Larry?
Cheers
Garry
