I've heard the story also that Jim passed on Please Help Me I'm Fallin, and what I have heard could be what you said, but what I heard was that it just wasn't his kind of song. Can you imagine though if Jim would have done it, and it would have been just as successful as Hank's version, he would have had 2 14-week #1 songs in a row, assuming that it would have been the follow up to He'll Have To Go. Another "what if" situation for sure. At least the same record company (RCA Victor) got lucky on those two landmark performances being back-to-back. God Bless Hank, and may he rest in peace and his family find comfort in this trying time. He certainly will be missed.
