There is some dispute as to the date. When the late Leo Jackson first heard the overdub, he was sure that Jackie Moffett was the drummer, and I so reported in the liner notes to the CD released on VoiceMasters by the same title, "Shepherd of Love." However, after the CD came out, Leo changed his mind and decided that the drummer sounded more like Mel Rogers, which means it would have been recorded no sooner than mid-1960, when Jim Reeves hired Mel, Dean Manuel and James Kirkland (to augment Leo) as part of the Blue Boys. The song had relevance to something that was going on in Jim's life around that time, so it's entirely possible that was the timeframe. I need to do more research before I give you a definitive answer, however.
