Hi all,
Went to Middlesbrough yesterday, that is a small town in the North-East of England, just 15 miles from where I live.
While there I paid my annual pilgrimage to the giant Tree of Rememberance in the Shopping centre square. I put a card on for Jim and Mary which the message "Missing you both so much at this time of year. R.I.P. Jim and Mary. Now with Chet Atkins in Heaven's choir"
I know that the tree is usually for relatives that have passed on, but I was staggered to see so many memorial cards to other singers and movie actors/actresses, including Roy Orbison, Dusty Springfield, Elvis Presley and British actress Diana Dors and actor Michael Rennie. I spoke to the elderly lady, whos job it was putting the cards on the tree. She is the devoted fan of Michael Rennie and is the one that placed the card on there herself. She has all his movies and signed photo of him, amongst other things. She also is a great fan of Jim's, and Slim Whitman. I told her about this site, and she has promised to have a look on her son's computer.
It is lovely to think that after 40 years Jim is so much still loved and missed. And I certainly will be giving the "Twelve Songs Of Christmas" LP a dusting off and plenty of airplay this holiday season.
