Yes, Jim and Roger Miller knew each other well, and Roger knew how to tickle Jim's funny bone. Besides recording some of Roger's songs, Jim also ran into him at clubs down in Printer's Alley, an area of Nashville that was an entertainment district (and still exists). Musicians used to go down there and jam, including in venues where jazz was performed. Jim sometimes followed Roger to the stage, and in my book I have eyewitness accounts of some of their interaction.
Roger also showed up with Willie Nelson one night at a venue in Texas where Jim was getting ready to perform, and asked Reeves if they could appear on stage. Since Jim hadn't had anything to eat, he agreed to let the guys do a set while he ran out and had a quick meal.
There are other amusing, offbeat stories about Roger which will be in my book.
