After the horror of losing Jim on July 31st 1964 had started to sink in, I and other people began to fear the possibility that Jim's music may cease to be available. This led to the "panic buying" which was reflected in his feat of having 8 albums in the UK's 'LP Best Sellers' chart on September 24th 1964. I was buying every new record as soon as it was released. I did not trust the record companies to maintain the Reeves' catalogue and I feared Jim would fade into the past.
Well, looking back 44 years later, I feel that I need not have been so worried. On Monday I received the latest Jim Reeves release 'Shepherd of Love' which is of the the usual high standard and thoroughly recommended.
Thanks to Jim's fans, fan clubs, Julie's great 'The Jim Reeves Way' website, and Larry's excellent Voice Masters CDs, Jim is still very much around and I am sure he will be for many years to come. I hope this will encourage RCA to reissue more of his original albums instead of compilations.
