Hi Martin,
I too have to say that 'Shepherd of Love' is really fabulous! Once again Voicemasters have done a great job on the overdubs and Jim as always sounds just great. Like you my favourite is 'He Will' as its a wonderful truth put over so very beautifully by Jim and with the new background arrangement and singers it's just first class. I also love 'Shepherd of Love' not just because of the prayer content but because of the way it is sung along with the fantastic musical arrangement. First class all round. Just on the spiritual or gospel theme when is 'There's a Light shining through just for you' going to be overdubbed? I think that too is so very good. If anyone has not yet purchased 'Shepherd of Love' you really should do so as you are missing a real treat. I too await the next issue from Voicemasters.
Robert Plant.

: Al "Rusty" Courtney was a friend
: of Jim's from KGRI days, and wrote some
: songs with Jim then. In Jim's later career
: Rusty also penned some tunes, which he sold
: to Jim, conveying all rights. Jim wanted to
: help his friend out because he'd gotten into
: some trouble. Jim went into Nugget studio in
: June 1964 to record some of Mr. Courtney's
: songs, including "He Will."
:
: Rusty was quite a talented songwriter, who
: also composed "Deep Dark Water,"
: "Before You Came Along" and
: "Crying Is My Favorite Mood,"
: (even though Jim has his name on them).
:
: Thus Jim recorded his friend's songs at the
: beginning and end of his professional
: career. I'll have more about this in my
: book.
:
: Glad you liked the CD. I was listening to it
: myself this afternoon in the car, and I have
: to admit one of my favorites is
: "Lonesome Waltz." I'm proud of the
: job we did restoring Jim's vocal on that. If
: you compare it with the RCA release years
: ago, you'll find that theirs sounded muddy
: (tape hiss). We got rid of all that and then
: put on new instrumentation. It's a night and
: day difference, and one of my favorites...
