There are a lot of people over the years who have recorded Jim Reeves songs, many of them amateur singers who invariably think they sound just like Jim. Some of them even get booked repeatedly at European fan club events, despite their obvious and sometimes painful limitations as singers.
But our friend Tony Wall, who was one of the two men responsible for the video documentary of Jim's life produced some years ago, (Gentleman Jim: Story Of A Legend), has been performing around England to widespread praise. He does not pretend that he sounds like Jim, although when you hear him, I think you will agree he certainly sings in a similar style.
Tony has been booked at a big venue next Friday, July 11th, and even garnered big-time radio airplay by a highly respected BBC show host, Alec Benford, who does a weekly program on Sundays that is reputed to be the most popular in Great Britain. What an impressive achievement! Tony will be performing at a big pub called Noah's Ark in Plymouth (which is in Devon, in the southwest of England), beginning at 8 p.m.
