P.S. I listened to the Eddy Arnold Tribute on WSM Wednesday night, and others had said that Eddy was optomistic but changed after the surgery. Billy Campbell said that Eddy twisted his leg and fell turning around while walking to the end of his drive way breaking his hip on March 9th, had the surgery on the 10th and apparently had to have some of it redone because he ripped the drainage tubes and some of the sutures out in his sleep and had to have more surgery to repair the damage. Billy said he was never the same after the anesthetic, but he also said that he didn't see him giving up because Sally died. In fact he told Billy he wanted to make yet another album.
There was a lot of interesting things that Billy said they did together when talking to Eddie Stubbs, like the time Billy and Eddy went to Chet Atkins' house to cut the bottoms off a few doors to make them clear some new carpeting, and Eddy making a dog house for one of Billy's customers (Billy ran a Hardware store in Brentwood, that he rented the building from Eddy). Guess he was pretty handy and enjoyed doing those chores. He didn't mind helping people out when they needed it. Also, Eddy did a nice job for Mary when he narrated the 20th Anniversary Jim Reeves Tribute Radio Program which was later made into a 3 Cassette Tape Set on Shannon Records and sold by Mary at the Museum and by mail order. No one has mentioned this and it is worthy of note here. ]

: Mike,
: Listening to Eddie Stubbs on WSM this
: week he did say that Jim Ed Brown visited
: with Eddy before his passing and told Eddie
: that he died from a broken heart. It is a
: verified medical condition, it happens a
: lot, and sometimes it takes awhile. My Mom
: (Bless her Soul on Mother's Day) missed my
: Dad terribly and she lived almost 3.5 years
: longer but I can remember her crying at
: Easter the first year he was gone. Well
: hopefully they are at peace and together
: again if that is indeed possible now. My
: condolences to Eddy's family and all those
: whose life he touched with his music. Eddy
: was one of my favorites also and I got to
: see him in concert in 1982 at The Front Row
: Theatre in the Cleveland area.

: A very sad week indeed, for Country music
: fans, First Leo and now Eddy Arnold, probably
: my second favorite country singer from the
: days of the Nashville sound, next to Jim.
: It's ironic that Eddy passed away so soon
: after losing his wife. It makes me think of
: Johnny Cash and June Carter, whose deaths
: were not very far apart. A sad time for
: those of us who loved the good old days of
: classic country music.

: Just read about Eddy's death on the
: internet. That nashville sound is forever
: gone now. The article said Eddy was a
: pioneer regarding the Nashville Sound era.
: I have to disagree, since I strongly support
: Jim Reeves as being the founding father of
: the Nashville Sound. Eddy and Patsy Cline
: sort of followed in Jim's footsteps. They
: were all fabulous singers though.

: Another Huge loss in classic country music.
: Jim and Eddy were very much alike in so many
: ways. Both chosing to veer into the new
: "Nashville Sound" that changed the
: sound of country music for many. Everytime I
: have heard him sing or seen Eddy on TV, I
: think of those pictures of Eddy in that
: white cap at Jim's plane crash site.
:
: It so tragic that Eddy recently lost his
: wife in March and then fell and injured his
: hip.
:
: Leo is being put to rest today, and we lose
: Eddy Arnold...it is a sad day in the world
: of music that I cherish.
:
: Rest In Peace Mr. Arnold, you have been
: reunited with your wife, and for that I know
: you are once again content.
