Oh My Goodness!
I just have to reply to this one, about what that doctor told Leo after his surgery. How could anyone who takes an oath to uphold and promote the health of another human being ever say such a thing to a patient. What a terrible shame.
I of course also join all of the others of you who have expressed sorrow and condolences at the equally terrible loss of "our friend" (if only through the music he left behind) Leo. Jim and Leo will indeed not be forgotten.
My prayers for his family and friends.

: To All,
: I read the news about Leo here first and
: in the newspaper and wish I understood why
: things happened the way they did, as it was
: indeed a tragedy that such an exuberant
: person had to lose his life under the
: reported circumstances. I read up on the
: the drug he was taking, and it is a potent
: narcotic pain reliever that could cause a
: variety of very bad side effects, a lot of
: them psychotic in nature and I don't
: understand how anyone would leave him
: unattended under those circumstances, and
: especially with arms in the house. The pain
: must have been just too much for him to
: bear. Anyway, I am so glad that I did get to
: know Leo better this past year, correspond a
: little, and have him call in for Bucks
: Braun's 2007 Jim Reeves Tribute Show last
: July. I did email and speak with Leo
: personally just before Christmas, and we
: compared notes about our health woes as we
: both had heart surgery, and had some of the
: same side ailments that result from it that
: they never tell you about. He did say also,
: unfortunately, that the Dr who did the
: surgery told him to "have a nice ten
: years," as that is what the Dr's
: perception of what Leo's life span would be
: after the surgery. He had his heart surgery
: in 1998, so maybe since the Dr put that in
: his mind, he possibly thought that this
: would be his last year to live. Any Dr. that
: would tell him that in my opinion did him a
: disservice. We talked about life and he was
: wanting to go on no matter what at
: Christmas, and I told him to hang in there,
: things would work themselves out. Just
: thought I would share these things with you,
: so something like this might be avoided in
: the future to persons in distress in your
: family.
:
: My extend my condolences to Leo's family
: and the Jim Reeves Fan Forum family as well.
: Leo will be sorely missed, and just like Jim
: we will never forget him.
:
: With tears,
: Don

: Oh my gosh! I was gone all week-end and
: came
: home this afternoon to read this sad news!
: What a shock! The last I heard from Leo he
: was doing well and hoped to be playing again
: soon.
:
: It was more devastating to read the article
: in the newspaper. It surely was the
: medication, he had too much to live for.
:
: My sincere sympathies go to Leo's family and
: fans everywhere who are suffering the loss
: also. One happy person is Jim to have his
: guitar player again!
: Always for Jim and Leo, Doris

: Larry and I are terribly saddened and
: shocked
: to tell you that Jim Reeves' lead guitarist,
: Leo Jackson, passed away today (Sunday, May
: 4, 2008) in Nashville. He had had minor
: surgery earlier in the week for a condition
: unrelated to his recent health woes.
:
: We extend our deepest sympathies to his wife

: I will have more later. -- Julie
