It was Mary's love interest, Blue Boy Bud Logan, who was smitten by Debra Allen when he met her at a party, and he prevailed upon Mary to use her on the duets. Despite their commercial success, Mary was critical of Debra and found her difficult to work with. In fact, Mary herself told me she regretted the choice, and would rather have had a different female vocalist (whom she named), do the overdubbing.
