First of all, merry christmas everyone. I am from Norfolk, UK. Last night on our local radio station a request show was on. I asked for Old Christmas Card and luckily it was played. The surprising and pleasing thing about this was the ripples it caused. So many listeners phoned in to say how great the song was and how good it was to hear Jim's voice.
I personally can see, I suppose being biased towards Jim, that his music, voice and popularity can last forever, not based on the playing of one song but for a quality I don't think any other singer has.
I also wonder, given the fact how fickle the music industry is, if Jim would have stayed with RCA. Would his contract be have been renewed or would he have tried other labels.
Also, and a contradiction in terms, would he have been as popular now if he had lived?
This writer knows that no matter the mood I can play some favourite tracks of Jim and somehow it seems for a while all is at peace with the world. No other singer, in my opinion, can come close to that.
