Bob,
My understanding is that RCA bought the 78 song catalog in 1956, but Abbott had rights to release any songs that Jim recorded with Abbott that were not released yet by them. Also, I have seen Gold Standard RCA copies of Bimbo that read that they were recorded in 1956, but there is no record of it happening in the session lists that were part of the Bear Family 16 CD set. One song that was rerecorded is Where Does A Broken Heart Go? that Jim wrote and put Mary's on it as writer, so she owned rights to it. It redone with an orchestral arrangement and was released on the Distant Drums LP/CD, and a radio version is on the RCA 2CD set the Jim Reeves Essential Collection from 1993. I'm not sure of the dates of the later recordings thet RCA released on that song. Also, RCA International in Germany released two LPs of Abbott Material Titled Jim Reeves the Abbott Recordings Vol 1 and 2 in 1982, with the Vol 1 having the same artwork as the original Jim Reeves Sings LP that Abbott issued in 1956, the one that is worth up to $2000, depending on condition.
Regards,
Don
