Seasons Greetings to All,
Jim Reeves was featured on the Now There Was A Song daily feature on Bucks Braun's Morning Radio Broadcast on The Is Have It, WBZI/WEDI/WKFI Xenia/Eaton/Wilmington OH and myclassiccountry.com on the web just before 10 AM this morning. It just so happens that today is the day in 1959 that Jim's biggest hit, He'll Have To Go, entered the Billboard Country & Western Sides Chart. It stayed on that chart 34 weeks and topped it for 14 weeks in 1960 (it knocked Marty Robbins' El Paso off the top spot on 2/8/60), went RIAA Gold and had enough sales to go RIAA Platinum in sales (I don't know if they ever gave Mary a platinum award for the disc or not but some people have referred to it as a Platinum record as it sold well over the 2 million required for the award - Over 3 Million were sold in the US and over 4 million world wide), and it was also Jim's first hit record in the UK at #12 on their all in one chart. It also hit #2 for 5 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 Pop chart, and was on that chart 22 weeks. Lastly it was named a Grammy Hall of Fame recording. Thanks to Bucks for remembering the feat on his show today! Thanks also go to Joel Whitburn for his Billboard Top Country Singles 1944-2005 and Top 40 Country Hits Second Edition Books that contain the chart/Grammy HOF Song information.
Regards,
Don
