To All,
Two major achievements were recognized on this date in the UK, the Guiness Book of Records acknowledged the feat of Jim's LP Albums holding 8 of the top 20 positions simultaneously on this date on the British Pop Album Chart put out by Record Retailer (later became Music Week)Magazine (9/24/64) just seven weeks after Jim lost his life in the plane crash. Two of the eight LPs were in the top 10: Gentleman Jim at #4 (its peak position and spent 14 weeks in the top 10) and Moonlight and Roses at #6 (it peaked at #3 in Oct '64 and was in the top 10 for 16 weeks). A Touch of Velvet was also on the list of 8, does anyone out there know what the other 5 UK LPs were that were in the Top 20? It was recoginized in the Millenimum Addition of the Guiness Book of records but a complete list of the LPs was not given. I gave you the Top 10 LP/Album data from The All Music Book of Hit Albums Compiled by Dave McAleer, which has data from 1960-1994. Also on this date in 1966 the single 45 of Distant Drums hit #1 on the Record Retailer/Music Week British Singles Chart, his only #1 hit there, and thus was the only song to be #1 both in the US and the UK. Our friend Mr. Bucks Braun played it on his show this morning and also made note of that fact on his show today on the Is Have It, and I thought I would pass it along.
Don
