To All,
I got an email from another poster with the same first name inquiring if I was doing OK (I told him I've been very busy), and I also told him there was a significant historical event that happened today that I would remind everyone about, and it is especially significant in lieu of the 50th anniversary of the facility this year and the use of Jim's likeness and a rare video in promoting the facility. Of course I'm talking about the fabulous RCA Studio B which is also currently owned by the Mike Curb Foundation as is the Newberry Collection of Jim's artifacts. Jim was at this very hour getting ready for the late evening session, the second of two that day that in reality extended into the first hour of July 3rd, 1964 which of course as fate would have it, it would be his last there in person for RCA. He recorded 4 songs at each session, two of which could have been errie prophecies of things to come, which were recorded the first session which ran from 1:30-4:30PM. Those two songs were "Make The World Go Away" and "Is It Really Over" and the other two songs of the afternoon session were "There's That Smile Again" and "You'll Never Know". The Late Evening session ran from 10PM to 1 AM on July 3rd and Included "In The Misty Moonlight", "Missing You" "Maureen" and "I Can't Stop Loving You." Jim's manager at the time, Ray Baker was at the evening session and recalls that the latter song, penned by the great Don Gibson, was the last one recorded.
As a tribute today On the "Is" Have It Classic Country Radio, our friend Mr. Bucks Braun played "Is It Really Over," the only #1 hit from the session and again, the last song recorded "I Can't Stop Loving You."
I will be joining Bucks again this year if the Lord is willing on Tuesday, July 31st 2007 for out 4th Annual Jim Reeves Tribute Show live from the Classic Country Radio studios Of the I's Have It at WBZI - AM 1500 in Xenia Ohio, and simulcast on WKFI - AM 1090 (Wilmington OH), and WEDI (Eaton OH), - AM 1130) . Last year we got 29 of Jim's songs on in the 5 hour broadcast and this year there will be an all request program. So, think of the song that you would most like to hear and I'll let you know when to call or email in your requests. We will take as many as we have time for, and Bucks will announce your first name and where you are from. In case of multiple requests for the same song we will try to announce, time permitting everyone who requested each song. I'll give you all the details when Bucks will begin taking the requests, the phone #s and email address to submit them and how to listen on the internet if you are out of the radio listening area. You need a high speed internet connection to listen effectively. I'll keep you updated on all the details as we get closer to the date.
