Posted by Larry Jordan Of course, we're still waiting to hear those three songs that are supposedly from Jim's alleged appearance on the "Hayride" in 1951. I'm referring to the ones that were sold in an ebay auction some months ago. Perhaps the reason they have never been shared is because they don't live up to the hype and aren't really from that time period. I'd be happy to be proven wrong. There are a number of recordings in the hands of private collectors who selfishly sit on things and not share them with the fans. I recently discovered that for years I was using the word "hoard" in the wrong way. I had always thought that it was appropriate to say these zealous collectors "hoarded" these things. Actually, the word "hoard," according to the dictionary, means "to accumulate for preservation, future use, etc." But that's not what these nutcases are doing. Their intent is not to preserve these items, or make any future use of them to benefit others. The proof of this is that some of them have sat on Reeves rarities for several decades now, and in the meantime a lot of Jim's fans have passed away without having heard them. When politely asked what they intend to do with these recordings, the zealots' typical reaction is to be evasive, make a lot of empty promises they have no intention of keeping, rudely reply, or even go on the offense against those of us who DO share with the fans. The mentality behind this kind of boorish behavior surely reflects some deep insecurities and serious dysfunction. It's unfortunate that so much of Jim Reeves' recorded legacy has fallen into the hands of a few of these fanatics. Whenever a new Reeves recording is discovered, you can be sure these crazies will make an all-out effort to acquire it, and thereby deprive others from enjoying it. Unfortunately, due to their deep pockets, they have been successful too many times. Since they do this to satisfy their egos, they go through a lot of angst when they are publicly exposed and shown to the world of Reeves fans for what they really are: truly selfish individuals. I didn't mean to get on a soapbox here, but I think fans would be upset if they knew some of the Jim Reeves treasures that are in the hands of a few collectors and will probably never surface until the collectors are dead and their next of kin sell off their belongings or -- more likely than not -- simply throw Jim's recordings in the trash. (I know of this happening). The sad fact is, there are people out there who don't give a damn about Jim's fans and foolishly think they can take it all with them...

My suspicion is this so-called "Hayride" CD is the same stuff that's been released before, most of which did not even come from the "Hayride," but from old radio transcriptions done for the military, and which have already been released ad nauseum. Plus they aren't very good to begin with.
