Posted by marko on 12/19/2006, 9:52 am luck runs out eventually. just like anything else. wells run six pack & heartaches to go jim. high tops if you have them. forget what i’m thinking. what i’m thinking isn’t an issue. what

dry. stars flame out. everything dies, & it usually goes
out kicking & screaming. that’s why peace & quiet is more
expensive than a steady stream of beautiful heads full of
dreams. entropy is carved in everything. forget about pi.
forget about mystical numbers, one hundred twenty-six
is just a number that comes after one hundred twenty-five.
forget about da vinci & fibbonachi & zohar. it’s more
important to understand nothing is permanent. you can
cling or you can jump. it won’t make a mark that can
effect the world. consult your atlas or your star charts.
drive until you’ve run out of road. it doesn’t matter how
fast or slow you take it. makes no difference which direction
you choose. whether you’ve been mapping it out for weeks
or it’s a beer run that got out of hand. you’ll find no more
history there than here. there are no guarantees. there is
no easy way out. it will always hurt. there will always be
pain so intense it makes a man cry out to god. it doesn’t
matter what he believed in his whole life. it doesn’t matter
if you don’t have two nickels to rub together, or you’re
flush in the pocket. take it or leave it. but this is probably
the best advice you’ll ever get. now, can you lend me a
few bucks to tide me over till payday?
scene 12
i’ve heard the name before, but can’t say i know him. hey,
if he treated her right she wouldn’t be going home with me,
right? hair-trigger temper isn’t going to get close enough
to me to whisper a word. i have something that’ll knock him
back ten feet if he sets foot in my place. that’s the law man.
all it takes is one step in a man’s house, & it’s clearly within
his rights to defend himself & his property. she’s nobody’s
property. but that won’t be necessary because this is between
you & me. that is the case, isn’t it compadre? there’s an extra
twenty in there for your fine service my man. i’m not concerned
if she can barely stand up. as long as she can lay down. they’ve
unplugged the jukebox baby. but there’s plenty of music where
we’re going. sure, atlantic city next weekend. i haven’t
forgotten. shit jim, how often does a man find a woman like
this at closing time. i owe you one. come on sweetheart—we’re
going for a ride.
scene 13
i’m thinking isn’t important to the present situation. pretend i’m
not here. better yet, pretend you don’t know me. no wait, pretend
i don’t even exist. i know it’s difficult with me standing here,
but try. this chocolate kiss is your heart. leave the foil on it ok.
& this table is the world. i know it’s not perfectly round, but
then neither is the world. the world is sort of egg-shaped. you
didn’t know that? that means it’s breakable. it has to be handled
with care. that’s not crazy. form is important to consider. now
put that kiss down where you think it belongs in relation to
the table. ok—start over. put your heart where you believe it
would belong in proportion to your being & the world. don’t think
about too long now. you’ll talk yourself out of the truth. think of
it as a tiny demonstration model. use your imagination. no, you
can only have one piece of chocolate. unless you have more
than one heart. like i said—try to pretend i’m not here. a world
without me. what—you’d put it clear over there?
