no matter how confident we are that we nailed it,
there’s always the chance a bone got slipped in
with the last mouthful. no matter how genuine &
good the applause sounds, we can’t be absolutely
sure there wasn’t a grudging nod in the mix. no matter
how many assure us we came out fine, there
could be even more that missed it the first time. no
matter how certain we are that our image made it
through untarnished, there might be some voodoo
chant slipped under that glossy surface. no matter
how sharp our profile appears, there will always
be a few nicks & cuts under closer examination.
no matter how impeccable our lineage lays out,
there’s going to be a bastard or two in the
woodpile. no mater how perfectly calculated it all
seems to read, often there is no logical response
beyond an interesting story.
