another weekend has fallen on the wrong day
& i checked my calendar twice to make certain
because i have good reason to believe
that i’ll be pinned own
for a good explanation or a creative excuse
why i didn’t make it when i promised i would
& what was i doing there in the first place
i can no longer plead lost
i wore that out years ago
& i don’t have nearly the same amount of charm
that’s required to pull that off anyway
& in the meantime
i haven’t been able to afford a suitable replacement
so i’m forced to wear things that no longer fit
but that won’t buy me any sympathy
because, after all, i’ve been given so many chances already
& obviously
i’m not making much of an effort
