a piece of music always sounds different to me at night it doesn’t matter whether it’s simple-minded bubblegum or a complex piece with a half dozen movements composed by some half mad german while trying to stab at imaginary parasites scurrying up & down the staff & you’re ashamed to admit it never stuck the same way that dumb pop song did no matter how many times you laid in a pitch-black room listening for every small nuance in melody & subtle time changes while waiting for a woman to whisper— do you remember that song & you nod your head even though it’s so dark that she can’t see a word you say
