Posted by Aussie Paras 1, 2 and 4 refer to the marriage as simply "very unhappy or unsatisfying", an "unpleasant situation" and "a legitimate married relationship that helps his public persona" (that's as positive as it gets). If the situation in this quote were real, rebuilding wouldn't occur. This perpetuates the "blaming the BS" mindset and gives comfort to the OW/OM on that score, while trying to give him/her a wakeup call on others. The truth of the matter is that many WSs really love their BS but unfortunately they compensate for their guilt by telling the OW/OM that their "marriage is a sham" and portray themselves as terminally miserable and put upon. I've got a book on infidelity at home which talks about this - I'll find it and post a quote

Actually, this feeds into the OW's fantasy of the "marriage being dead in all but name", or whatever.
