I have a 12-ish year old gray Arabian mare in need of a new home. I adopted her about 5 years ago from an elderly gentleman my husband was helping, whose deteriorating health forced him to be placed in the V.A. Home. I had sent her out for training, so she was started under saddle and did amazingly well. Unfortunately, she is not a very good beginner’s horse, and that’s what I am. She’s sweet and gentle, but because I’m not a confident rider, it hasn’t worked out well for either of us. I’ve been keeping her as a pet, but due to financial constrictions and time restraints from my daughter and her increasing activity schedule, I can’t to keep her.
She’s a very good horse that thrives on routine and consistency. She’s friendly, loves people, is used to dogs running around, and will stand quietly and let you brush her all day long without so much as a halter on. She leads, ties, and stands for the vet and ferrier, but the trailer is very stressful for her. She would be great for an experienced rider who wants a project. Her left back foot is slightly turned out which makes her hind end look hollow, and she has a superficial crack in her front right foot that never grows out despite regular trimmings. But neither condition seems to bother her. However, because of them, I would never consider using her for competition. But she has great stamina and would be a fantastic trail horse. I really care about this horse, but I’m not the right match for her.
Thanks for your help!
