I was hoping to get some help making sure I was doing the right thing in reguards to the proper feeding of a 4 month old baby Belgain colt I had rescued a few months ago.
His mother died when he was just 3.5 months old (now 4.5 months old) and I wanted to be sure I was feeding him what he should have at this young age. I can not find on the internet what to properly feed a draft at this young age and I do not want to stunt him. I have found that drafts wean there babies at closer to 6 months old and adults need to have no or very low starches and sugars and high in fats so I have him on a 6# a day, regular non-sweet horse feed with calf manna added along with a cup of corn oil. Am I doing the right thing or should I add or feed something else? He eats his feed well and seems to be doing well, but I want to make sure I'm doing as I should for him. Any help would be great.
