Why do you want to breed? Why not try saving a foal at an auction, a PMU baby, or a nurse mare foal, if you really want to raise a foal. Im not being rude or accusatory, there is just so much overbreeding going on, that it raises questions when someone states that they might breed a horse. Many of the horses that end up at auction (=slaughter) is because of overbreeding. Breeders (especially AQHA) continue to overbreed trying to get that perfect horse, and then just discard the ones that arent so perfect at auction and many end up being cruelly slaughtered. Many horse owners/lovers think the notion of having a baby horse is so cute, so they have a baby and once they do, they learn that it is a lot of work, and the cuteness factor goes away. Im not saying that you fall in any of the above categories, just stating some facts and reasons why most rescues would be leery of adopting out to someone who wants to breed and bring another horse into the world, when there are so many out there needing to be rescued. In fact, most rescues (including this one) have a no-breeding clause in their contract. Just trying to inform you, in case you are unaware of some of the issues in the horse rescue world.
