The pony recovered fully within a year and is currently used as a trail horse for young children. --Previous Message--

As soon as you type the word "free", you will have people responding only because of that reason. I would not mention the lack of fee but instead focus on stressing the importance of someone who is experienced and can financially provide the needed help.
: Heather: I am also working with a foundered
: horse
: which I got a year ago, also unknowing at
: the time
: that he was afflicted. My farrier found it
: the
: first time we trimmed him. I did have one
: set of
: x-rays done, but since, I have treated him
: with
: a little bute twice a day (half gram a.m.
: and p.m.) and hoof supplement. He has been
: walking
: very sound, and his feet look much better (I
: use
: Focus HF in a little Blue Seal Hunter). My
: farrier does a so-called "natural
: trim" for him.
: It has been a year, and we are really hoping
: for
: a decent recovery. He is now down to only
: half
: a gram of bute a day, and so far so good.
: Since
: your horse is not rotated, his prospects
: might be
: OK with time. You need a good farrier, who
: has
: worked with this problem before. I know how
: discouraging news like that is, believe me,
: and
: how expensive it can get. I truly think
: that
: good trimming, nutritional support, and time
: can
: really work wonders. JM

: I can't say for sure what special care he
: may
: need besides that. He will need to be seen
: by a vet, for my vet told me that further
: x-rays were needed to find out specifically
: what is causing his lameness besides the
: laminitis. I can't afford a full work-up on
: him, so therefore I had to decline. Which is
: why I am persueing a good home for him with
: someone that will understand and be able to
: afford his needs.

: Hello, I am 15yr old, I already own a 21y/o
: AQH sorrel gelding. I don't really have any
: experiences with laminitis, but is there
: anything else speical needed for him,
: besides a dirt pasture, hay-only diet? The
: stables i am at they have pretty much dirt
: ONLY pastures, and a hay-only diet is easily
: able to be done. Please respond back to me!
:
: Thank You,
: Amanda

: Heather,
:
: Please be very careful in who you let this
: horse go to.
: Unfortunately, he's a prime candidate for
: the meat buyers.

: Jack is a 13 year old Appaloosa, western
: pleasure horse with laminitis. I purchased
: him in late April, and when I asked the
: owner why he seemed stiff, the owner said
: that he needed his feet trimmed (which he
: did). When the farrier came nine days later,
: he said that the horse had laminitis. The
: vet (GVEC) took X-rays and said that his
: coffin bone has NOT ROTATATED, but he needs
: more X-rays and special care for at least a
: year. The previous owner would not take him
: back, or give me back my $3,000. He needs a
: dirt pasture, hay-only diet. I will turn
: over all vet records. While he is walking
: now, he is obviously uncomfortable. If you
: have experience in dealing with laminitis,
: you may have this horse for free. Call me at
: 585-704-1425.
