Answering machines

Answering machines.
Come on owners.Answer your calls.It is only curtesy to do so.I find only half do.My policy now is to wait for six burrs and hang up.
On the subject of phone calls.When making a call
and the engaged signal is there and then a voice
says "the person you are trying to contact is not
available" which I already know by the engaged
burrs.Does anybody know if ones pays for that
unecessary information?

Hi John,
If the line is engaged you will not be charged for the call - if however the call is answered by any form of answering service then you will be charged as the call has been answered. It is the choice of the person you are calling whether or not they want such a service - they aren't compulsory.

Of course I know I won't be charged if the line is engaged,but you say I will if a voice comes on
and it's instigated by the person I am calling.
So.I will be informing a few people of this.

John, I'm with Talk Talk now & they were charging me 12p for a 1 Second Call. As soon as I heard the change in the Ring Tone at whoever I was ringing it indicated to me that I would be getting the answer phone so I'd hang up, but not quick enough. So I asked customer services what they were doing charging me for a call that had no use whatsoever & that the receiver should be liable for any charge after all it is his answer machine. A 1 second call is no use to anyone. They've got around that now by not listing any call less than 1 minute & those less than one minute are rounded up to a minute. You can't win mate.

me to pay for advice I don't need.I wrote to both
Gazette and Chronicle about this about a year ago
Chronicle put it in 'Vent your Spleen.'
Gazette didn't publish.

Yes, I think so John, it depends on your deal though.Once an answer is given, even though it is a recorded message it usually is chargeable.
