My name is appearing all over this topic, which I don't really mind about but other than posting messages I have nothing to do whatsoever with the poor little girl.
But something similar happened to my neice 6 or 7 years ago. Danielle, my sister Elizabeths' daughter was at University in Sydney Australia & on a mid course holiday in New Zealand when she became concerned. She visited a doctor who advised her to end her holiday & return home & see her GP immediately. Tests discovered she had a Tumor surrounding her Aorta & windpipe the size of a cauliflower & was inoperable. Chemotherapy removed the tumor but within 4 months it was back. And very aggresive. Her Dad Bob is the director of a pathological research laboratory attached to Brisbane University where they live in Brisbane. As the tumor had just about defeated the Experts, her Dad & the Oncologist discussed the possibility of performing very intense Chemo (A mixture of 8 drugs) & then perform a STEM CELL replant. Bob had worked on Stem Cell technology in Glasgow back in the 1980's. Danielle was born here in Harrogate. Work was done on Danielles blood at the Research Institute while a search went on for someone who could perform the replacement of STEM CELLS. Such a place was in Houston USA who claimed that a compound could be created from Danielles' blood sample which would contain a Hunter/Killer virus which would be engineered to hunt down & destroy any cancerous cells remaining in Danielles body. After some very vigous chemotherapy & very trying conditions being not able to eat anything solid whatsoever & bleeding from every oriface in her body, being perpetually hooked up to blood products, the news came that the Houston Clinic was ready with Stem Cell replant. Danielle went to Houston & had her treatment. There are items in the human body called BILLIRUBINS (I don't know if that is the correct spelling), the normal Count is around 20 which control the Liver & Kidneys I think. Her count went over 700 which had never been seen before. As Danielle says herself "I was a Gonna"
But the numbers began to reduce ever so slightly & she is here today. She was the subject of an Australian TV ABC program called "From My Fathers Fridge" Danielle visited the Brand New Childrens Cancer Facility I think it is at The Freeman (not sure) She has also visited Edinburgh, Manchester, York & Cambridge University all to do with Cancers in young people.
