Remembrance Sunday fast approaches and will have added poignancy for those families that have lost loved ones in recent days in Afghanistan.Lets also remember all those from Hebburn and surrounding areas that lost their lives in earlier conflicts. My Uncle, John William Hayton, was born in Hebburn in 1923. At the tender age of 20 and as a rear gunner on Lancasters with 100 squadron, he was sadly lost on a raid to Berlin, failing to return and being lost without trace. So there is no grave to tend just the memory of a much loved son, brother and uncle. I have pledged to keep his memory alive and remember all those young men who had barely finished being boys. Uncle John is my family hero, as they were all heroes. Honour them.
Wear your poppy with pride.
