You don't need to pay for anti-virus and related protection. There's a fair range of completely free programmes which give you good basic protection.

Different people will recommend different products, but you need to bare in mind that most folk have only tried one free programme. If they like it they tend to stick with it - doesn't necessarily make it 'the best'

I would advise that you have a look at this short page on the MoneySavingExpert's website - then follow the link to the programme you think sounds best.
