I was just wondering if we've become so accustomed to the year round, ready availability of foodstuffs and flowers etc. that we've forgotten just how seasonal those commodities used to be.
I'm 60 next year, but I can't really remember any specifically flower shops in Hebburn when I was a kid. I guess any which were there would have been constrained to seasonal produce from this country and northern Europe. So that's what I was asking about.
Nowadays, we just expect supermarkets and even garages to sell a range of flowers throughout the year. The trade off is that these are 'preserved' and produced for appearance rather than scent.
