A good tip someone passed on to me a while ago- when they commence the routine conversation say "excuse me there is someone at the door will you hold please" then rest the handset for a while. All it does is frustrate the caller and, of course, run up their bill. Don't forget to replace the handset later.I am registered with the Telephone Preference Service which prevents quite a lot of calls, but they can't stop ones from an company you have dealt with in the past.
