Hello ! I'm restoring a Heathkit HW-5400 that the previous owner built and could never make work right. I've gotten all of the (his) bugs out of it, except for this problem: the master oscillator moves about a hundred cps between transmit & receive. There is no change in VCC on the oscillator or the buffer, so I'm suspecting "ground jump" -- a condition related to the fabled "ground loop" where measuring oscillator to chassis becomes irrelevant as a change in I squared E drop is induced in the oscillator VCC- return -- but I'm guessing at this point. Any pointers from anyone?
