I like how the boxy Flattop adds width to Dave's hairline & head shape.
Hmmm, I certainly understand the problems regarding the expensive barber bills. For decades the price of any haircut at the 50 year old barber shop that I frequent have all been the same monetary amount...which up until October 2008 was $15.00. However, after my barber (who owns the barber shop) hired a barberette...she convinced him to add a $2.00 surcharge for a "Flattop With Straight Razor Sides". Prior to this occurrence, I coincidentally inquired with my barber as to how many of his customers request the shaved sides & back on their Flat Tops. He replied that I'm only one of three customers that have ever requested a Shaved HnT Flat Top. Thus, he is raising the price of a haircut that only three customers have ever requested...which is odd considering that I have always tipped him $5.00 for a $15.00 haircut (33% tip), to compensate for the extra effort in sculpting a Shaved HnT Flat Top. Even though I wasn't happy about the price increase, I did continue to give him a $4.00-$5.00 tip on the two visits to his barber shop after the raise in price...because they performed the photo session of my barber flattening me out. However, money is rather tight for me personally...and I was beginning to get the impression that my barber was viewing me as an endless money pit...especially when he attempted to charge me $4.00 for a butch comb, when the box clearly had $2.00 marked on the display. Taking into consideration that my barber is now charging for the extra effort in sculpting a Shaved HnT Flat Top, I decided to take advice from some friends and revert back to handing him a $20.00 bill...that would still be a $3.00 or 18% tip, which is higher than the 17% recommended tip and more than the $2.00 tip that most of his customers give to him. After I handed my barber the $20.00 bill...he had the nerve to hold the $20.00 bill in his right hand, keep the cash register drawer open and stick his left hand out for me to give him a larger tip. Can you believe the nerve of this guy? After his previous customer received his haircut, the gentleman handed my barber a $20.00 bill for a $15.00 haircut...to which my barber handed him back five $1.00 bills...and the customer gave him a $1.00 tip & my barber thanked the gentleman. Whenever I gave my barber a $20.00 bill, he never offered me change. Now, I give him a $3.00 tip...and he has the nerve to gesture that I still owe him $2.00 more...for a haircut that is taking him less time to cut than a majority of the more detailed longer haircuts that he provides for other customers. Besides, other Flattoppers have told me about receiving a hot towel treatment on their scalp prior to shaving and being shaved multiple times with the grain & against the grain at various other barber shops across the country and they are charged less money than I pay...whereas I've never experienced the hot towel treatment or the double shave for this extra expense. Unlike the majority of the American citizens, my barber doesn't appear to be hurting financially these days. There was a period of time, when I was attempting to figure out how I could financially afford to increase the frequency of my visits to the barber shop...but now I find myself decreasing the total number of haircuts per year, due to this added expense & the negative changes in this barber shop the past couple of months. Lately, I find myself dreaming & attempting to stretch my finances...so that I can make a 7 hour round trip drive ( 3 1/2 hours each way) to be flattened out by an award winning barber friend, who specializes in sculpting Flat Tops...and enjoy visiting a real barber shop once again.
