After finally arranging my schedule to get to Joe during the week and then not finding him there two nights in a row, I was taking off work anyway the other day and went to Steve. I didn't give him specific enough instructions, and he cut the front to a narrow bumper and thinned it out, which with my hair just makes it stick up more. After trying to ignore it all afternoon, I broke down and went back to him and had him just cut it all shorter.
So much for being able not to think about it all the time! In almost ten months, I've had maybe five weeks that I could just leave it alone and be happy with it. I may just give up and go with a flattop for spring and summer rather than spend any more time this frustrated, then grow it all out longer in the fall and give the short ivy a try again in the winter. Assuming I don't just break down and shave it off again!
Man, I really did have a good thing while John had his shop in Marlboro. Maybe I'll go ahead and give the guy he sold it to a try. I should have when I went down there back in January! Or maybe I'll try getting out to Ricci's in New Paltz during the week; that's only a mile further from Poughkeepsie, and 5 miles less out of the way if I can do it on my way in to work.
