I'll address your points in reverse order.
On the "controversy" regarding the rantings of Rev. Wright. I thought Barak's response from Philly was not only superb but right up there with Roosevelt and JFK. He did as much as he could do and as well as he could do with honesty to say that he was not "one" with the good Reverand. He demonstrated to me -- an Obama friend from the first -- that he is the man I believed he was. But I also think it is obvious at this point that those who had reservations based on race that were not considered PC are going to cover racism in alleged patriotism. Barak is not a god -- he really cannot do anything to negate those who simply cannot envision a President "of color". In the past week American politics reverted to its sad prior history. This election will now be a referendum on race -- like it or not.
Second. Are the Dems now in deadlock to the advantage of the Republican "nuts". Yes. It's 50.5 vs. 49.5 in favor of Obama vs. Clinton or Clinton vs. Obama. Race and gender are such key issues for Dems that things are not likely to change. I remember watching guppies in a home aquarium devour their young -- Dems are doing the same. We/they are playing into McCain's hands.
I detest the Clintons. I might have had some sympathy for Hillary if she had given Bill his walking papers over the Monica incident. But I see them both now as panderers and opportunists. I have as I said loved Barak from the first.
But at this point I think a Dem victory is the issue. I think one of the two ought to give way to the other in the interest of party unity. Hillary never will. She and Bill will fight to the last delegate. So, reluctantly, as a pragmatist I feel Barak should be the one to "fall on his sword". I think he ought to give way to Hillary for the good of the party. It's a sad, and reluctant solution, but I hate Bush and McCain more that I do the slickerster from Hope.
