I thought I'd go back to John's shop in Marlboro now that I'm done with year-end vacation, so I went down there at lunchtime today and found that he's sold out! It's still a barbershop, now called Gaetano's, and I thought I might go in, but someone else arrived right ahead of me, and between the wait and being tired of trying out new barbers I decided to go to someone I knew. I went over to Wappingers Falls to Joe at Imperial--and he still wouldn't cut anything closer than a #1 even when I asked for "skin" and he repeated it twice to confirm. Worse, when he got to the front, just as I started to tell him to cut it short right up to where the cowlick splits and leave it longer on the other side, he cut a big chunk straight across the whole thing. Even though I'd said at the start to take only a little off the front, he cut off about an inch, so now I've lost another two months in growing back out to my regular cut.
I guess I'll be figuring out to rearrange my schedule to go to Joe at Steve's Cut Above in Kingston, in the evenings when he's the only one there. I do like the gals up at Classic Cuts in Kingston, but they close too early on Saturdays for me to get there regularly.
