Looking back, I realize that the whole haircutting scene has meant a lot to me over the years, and I hope you don't mind if I reflect a bit. Also, I hope others will join me in sharing.......
Haircutting has always been a major part of my life. (As I've admitted before, I first cut [off] my hair when I was five!) It scared me at first, but now it has simply enriched my life - especially since experiencing the haircut boards over the years.
I bought my first online computer for the expressed purpose of delving into my haircut 'interest,' and I have never been disappointed. I've experienced a multitude of shops I would have never known about and tried a huge variety of short cuts because of this experience. I got the courage to go from a regular flat, to a high and tight flat, to the horseshoe that has become my trademark cut. And I've enjoyed it immensely over the years!
But most important to me has been the wonderful people I've met over the years. I have haircutting friends across the country, and I'm proud to know that I'm just one of a large community of great guys who share my interests.
My life partner isn't into haircutting, and never will be, but that's OK: he is totally tolerant of my fetish. And I've learned that THAT's OK, too.
Finally, this year, I mourn the passing of my best friend, Richard, who passed away in 2007. I met him at a haircutting party many years ago in New York, and he became truly the brother I never had. And to think, I met him through haircutting!
So, as 2008 begins, I just want to express how great the haircut scene has been for me. For those of you who lurk but are afraid to come out, let yourselves go: the benefits are fantastic.
Happy New Year to all, and especially to Gunny and DR!
