Posted by Colin on 22/9/2007, 18:32:38 Shoulda waited till Tuesday! Three women barbers, which is fine with me, but their own hair all looked pretty dismal. I saw one decent brush cut in progress and thought I'd be OK. I explained repeatedly that I was growing out just the front and wanted the rest short, even tugging on it to show her precisely what I meant by "front," and I came away with a crappy, uneven crewcut. She left about the front two-thirds of the top the length it was, leaving a ragged step to the shorter section behind that, and cut more length off the front than I'd had on the rest of my head to start with! How she thought cutting it shorter than my last cut would help in growing it out is a mystery. In the midst of this, she cut my eyebrows short without asking--on the same day that I'll finally manage to get out to a contra dance for the first time in months, so now my eyes will be stinging with sweat all night. I came home and got out my clippers, and fortunately with the #3 guard I was able to even out everything she'd taken such pains to contour freehand. The front is hopeless, with a big notch cut into it. So much for my effort of growing out over the summer to have something reasonable by fall.

I meant to go down to John's in Marlboro yesterday but didn't make it, and didn't get home early enough to go up to Joe at Steve's A Cut Above in Kingston either. So I tried to go to Steve today and I'd forgotten he had posted that he was on vacation this week. I'd noticed another shop that looked promising but it was already closed for the day, so I decided I'd go try out Plaza Barbers.
