Posted by ShornBald Also, if you look at photos of the men who served in WWII, their hair wasn't severely clipped. And I doubt if that was the norm during Korea either. (Although it would never have been as long or shaggy as haircuts are portrayed on Mash.) It would be interesting to know when (other than boot camp) H&Ts and short buzzed cuts became the norm during military service. Any thoughts?

Yes, Mash was definitely created for the 70's audience -- one which generally didn't have or respect men w/short hair. Even most draftees left their hair grow long once they left military service.
