My bathroom's made for short people, so there's no danger of my trying to shave under running water! Staying in the steam, though, has some effect that keeps me from nicking myself at all with the single blade (even when dead tired and punchy). I will go ahead and try out the triple blade some more, but so far I really don't get quite as close a shave with it. In addition to aloe, another surprisingly soothing ingredient is glycerin, which also makes a smooth coating to reduce the feel of stubble. Nivea For Men Sensitive Balm gives a nice slick feel with no greasiness. Aqua Velva or store-brand equivalent alcohol-based lotion with glycerin and menthol makes a drier, almost rubbery finish.

Remember what Gunny and I were saying about sebaceous cysts recently? I've got thick sebum and plenty of it. Thinning it with surfactants gives me a much slicker surface to shave than gumming it up with stearate. Same for those lubricant strips on the multi-blade razors, they just make more goo to shave through.
