Jack, I cannot be so cynical. I have no hesitation to say that I would be a Democratic Socialist if we had such a viable party here. I beleve that the role of government ought to be to marshall the resources and wealth and to then redistribute them with a fair degree of attention to the needs of the recipients. Unlike your Labour Party our Dems have never embraced that principle (though our conservatives accuse them of holding the objective -- which is a laugh.) Still, I have no problem voting for them as the lesser of two evils and genuinely believe that in most instances their policies satisfy more of my egalitarian objectives than the Republican opposition.
