Politicians here very frequently bemoan the "apathy" of the British electorate, pointing to turn-outs that rarely exceed 60% these days. Toni is particularly exercised by this one and has been own to admonish the nation at large for their complaisance.
The fact is I haven't voted myself for upwards of ten years. I was a Labour Party activist for many years before that, knocking on doors, attending meetings, rattling collecting-tins. I stopped voting when Labour stopped being socialist, resigning from the party with the abolition of Clause 4 of its constitution (which advocated public ownership of the means of production). In this country we have a choice of overt or covert Toryism - it would revolt and shame me to vote for either,
