I can see that I need to claify. My original words "power exchange" were ill chosen. What I intended to say was that I view a barbershop experience as a "male bonding ritual" -- akin to the Saturday night poker game or an all male tailgate before a football game, or even a father-son teaching experience. Gay men have few opportunities than straights for experiences. I believe that that was all I was trying to say about the gay connection to a male-male sheering. I don't view the barber as a sex object -- indeed I prefer older men as barbers. My connection is with the imagined mystique of years of traditional male values.
