Except at my wife's prompting, in almost a week I've had only one person comment on my baldness (favorably) and only one other even mention noticing it. My little sister didn't even point it out to her two-year-old daughter. At a huge memorial gathering this weekend, a woman who had only known me vaguely from work 15 years ago with longer hair and no beard--and who's even worse with faces and names than I am--recognized me from across the room. Someone I hadn't seen since going short again this summer just stopped by and commented on my having moved offices, but not on my appearance. Another guy who normally comments every time I change my hair and who now looks straight across the hall at me from his desk hasn't even seemed to notice.
I'd worry that they were all being too polite to point out something hideously wrong, if it weren't for the fact that everyone prompted by my wife has told her it looks good, and she's even come around to not disagreeing with them!
