I think it is stupid to have a white golly. I still have the Golly I was given as a child - I am now 38. I can see that coloured people may be offended by them, but why? I don't think they are racist in any way, if anything it teaches children to accept people of a different colour to themselves.I am white and Golly was the best toy I ever had:I went everywhere with it tightly in my clutches and he is the only one to have survived through to my adulthood. I would have been lost without him. He is now safely tucked away in a plastic bag so that he'll still be in tip top condition in many years to come. Was I wrong to love such a doll? It's black, big deal. We don't try and ban coloured kids from playing with white dolls, so why shouldn't a child be able to have a Golly? Don't kill Golly off. So many of our traditional toys have vanished into obscurity - don't add Golly to the list.
