As to the person who said Florence Upton did NOT invent the Golly, you are wrong..Obviously their were black dolls before Florence, but she invented this particular one, and she invented the name...or as she says in her biography, "A Lark Ascends", she created the charactor, but HE named himself... In her books, the Golliwogg is the hero.. Before jumping all over me, why don't YOU read them.

ACTUALLY I HAVE DONE ALOT OF RESEARCH ON THIS, AND IT ALL BOILS DOWN TO WHAT THE GOLLY IS..I SEE IT AS A TOY, SUCH AS RAGGEDY ANN, AND A ZILLION 'WHITE' TOYS, whilst you are looking at it from a 'racist' point of view..imo...
