I know some people don't get that, but thats the way it was..especially in England, as we didn't have many black people over there anyway..My Mum didn't even see any one black until she was in her 40s..!! When I was young in the 50s... one of a paint box colours was Nigger Brown..it was quite a commom term. WE all had Golliwogs, and didn't even think of them as being a black doll or a white doll, it was just a Golliwog, and we loved them thats why we hauled them around with us everywhere, or took them to bed with us at night.....Alot of people don't seem to get that either..but thats the way it was...and remains... I've given up arguing with people about the dos or don'ts of Gollies..Nothing I say will ever change anyones mind if they are determined to believe that they are racist..I just KNOW they are not.

That Agatha Christie book was written in a day when the N word was not bad...and did not have the connotation it has today, not for most people anyway..
