I saved a knitted Golly from a bin in a community center where I took my young sons to play group in Tottenham North London in 1984. He had ben thrown away by the politically correct middle class playworkers, who deemed the tojy racist. As my children are of mixed Irish/Engish white and black Trinidadian heritaage I thought it was right to rescue him. Wenow have over 30 Gollies at home, I have asked the opinion of many of my black friends and family and all agree that it is only a doll, not racist and it is positive to have such a dolly for all children to play with. I'm glad I rescued him and he started off my collection. I shall save them for my grand children to enjoy.
