Posted by Julia My great grandmother was related to the Lawson's somehow or another, never been quite sure how, but apparently, it was a well known secret within the family that Marie *was* pregnant. However, Grandma always said she figured it was a boyfriend of Marie's, not Charlie. Charlie and his family were a rather upstanding family, for all the odd behavior attributed to Charlie, and an unwed mother was simply not acceptable in that age and time. I've always figured that this had something to do with the reason behind the murders. Arther, the only survivor, most likely was sent to town for shells because he was the only one capable of stopping Charlie. There had been incidents where Arthur HAD stopped Charlie from violence. This leads me to believe that Charlie was planning this for some time..... Mr. Jones is deceased, Trudy is re-releasing the book. Not sure if any changes are being made or not, quite frankly, those who know the truth just ain't talking. Working in a small pharmacy in Walnut Cove gets me privy to some information, alot of speculation and oodles of guesses.....I've heard a few stories that make sense, and my guess is that people aren't talking because they are protecting not only a neighbor, but possibly their own families...anyone know how *hard* it is to commit suicide with a shotgun??? If you have access to the book (btw, King Library has a photocopy that you can copy for around $7.50), there are discrepincies in the book that are rather glaring if you keep that small tidbit in mind....
